We really enjoy our clinical time at the Lehigh and Imperial Health care Centers and Physicians Regional Medical Center.  The wonderful staff at these facilities and of course the patients help us learn.

iTECH Practical Nursing students are learning Anatomy and Physiology of the human body in the Skills Lab.  Learning in the lab makes learning this difficult material easy and fun.

Yes, there is lots of “book learning” in the nursing programs.  But it is made much more interesting with our great computer resources and of course the labs and then real patients!


There are many tests to take but not till after reading, learning in the classroom, and practicing in our workbooks.  It is not so hard then!  I know I can do it!

Program Description

The iTECH Nursing Assistant program focuses on producing an excellent nursing assistant who is ready to take and pass the Florida Certified Nursing Assistant exam – (C.N.A.), and to function well caring for the elderly resident in a long-term care facility or an assisted living center or even in the client’s home. 

Preparation for Employment
This program offers a strong foundation of knowledge and skills to prepare students for employment as a Certified Nursing Assistant.  The content includes classroom and clinical experiences in long-term care facilities and homes.  We teach the useful skills that employers are looking for.

Lab Activities & Equipment
Lab activities are an integral part of this program.  These activities include instruction in the use of safety procedures, tools, equipment, materials, and processes related to nursing.  The equipment and supplies in our nursing labs are provided to enhance the hands-on experiences for students. Included in our labs is an adult computerized patient simulator and other mannequins so that the nursing students can practice the skills learned in the classroom.  The nursing assistant student will learn clinical skills such as hand-washing, moving and transferring clients, vital signs, Foley catheter care, emergency procedures, hygiene and grooming, etc.

2. Practical Nursing

Program Description

The iTECH Practical Nursing program focuses on producing an outstanding practical nurse who is ready to take and pass the NCLEX-PN (Nursing Council Licensure exam – Practical Nurse, and to function well in a broad variety of nursing settings caring for adults, children and the elderly.  Over 50% of the program is clinical.

Preparation for Employment
This program offers an extensive foundation of knowledge and skills to prepare students for employment as a Licensed Practical nurse.  The content includes classroom and clinical experiences in hospitals, clinics, long-term care, and offices.   We teach the useful skills that employers are looking for.

Do you like helping people to feel better?

Certified Nursing Assistants care for residents in nursing homes and assisted living centers. They help people perform their activities of daily living such as getting meals, getting dressed, walking, and bathing.

Home Health Aides also care for people- usually in the person’s home.  They also help people perform their activities of daily living such as getting meals, getting dressed, walking, and bathing.  In addition, they may help people with simple meal preparation and encourage their clients to take their medications.

Licensed Practical Nurses care for people who are in hospitals, hospices, and in doctors’ offices and clinics. They give medications and also help people to get to their highest level of health.

The Nursing Assistant & Home Health Aide course is offered twice per year, in the fall (September thru December) and in the Spring (February thru May). The class runs from Tuesdays thru Thursdays from 8:00 AM till 2:30 PM, for a total of 240 hours. The Nursing Assistant & Home Health Aide course teaches you in the classroom and nursing homes and clients’ homes and teaches you nursing skills like taking blood pressures and pulses, making a bed, and helping people to get out of the bed and up to walk or into a chair. After you finish the 240-hour course, you can take the state exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant, and work in nursing homes, assisted living centers, or clients’ homes!

If you want to become a Licensed Practical Nurse, this course begins twice a year at iTECH and is a day-time course from 8:00 AM – 2:35 PM Monday thru Fridays. You will learn nursing care of adults, children, pregnant women, and the elderly in the classroom, nursing skills in the labs here, and in local hospitals, hospices, clinics, and doctors’ offices. This is a three-semester, 1350- hour course, and at the end, you are a very good nurse and you are eligible to take the state licensing exam to be an L.P.N.!

Q. How long is the Practical nursing (PN) Program?
A. The Practical Nursing (“PN”) Program is three semesters in length, 1350 hours total.  Two classes start each year.

Q. What do the 1350 hours in the PN program include?
A. These hours include classes here at iTECH in the third floor Nursing classrooms and labs and clinical experience at nursing homes such as Lehigh Acres Health & Rehab Center, Imperial Health Care in Naples and  hospitals such as Physicians Regional Medical Center in Naples, and clinics and offices in Lehigh, Immokalee, and Naples.   Over 50% of the program is clinical

Q. What time are classes and clinical for the PN program?
A. At this time, classes and clinical are all day-time only 8:00 AM – 2:35 PM Monday thru Friday, on the Collier County Schools calendar.  There are no evening classes or clinical for the Practical Nursing program.

Q. What happens upon completion of the PN program?
A. Upon completion of the PN program, graduate practical nurses take the NCLEX-PN test and pass and now are Licensed Practical Nurses.

Q. What is the iTech Practical Nursing NCLEX-PN pass rate?
A. For the iTECH Practical Nursing class which graduated in November 2009, 14 of the 15 graduates have passed NCLEX-PN and are now LPNs.  For the iTECH Practical Nursing class which graduated in June 2010, 14 of the 15 graduates have passed NCLEX-PN and are now LPNs.  For the Practical Nursing class which graduated in March 2011,  13 of 15 graduates have passed.  As of April 2012, for the Practical Nursing class which graduated in November 2011, thus far 13 of 14 graduates who took NCLEX have passed, and we anticipate that we will hear soon that all 19 have passed.  We are very proud that our current NCLEX pass rate is over 92%!!!

Q. Is the iTech PN program accredited?
A. iTECH is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Council on Occupational Education.  The iTECH Practical Nursing Program is fully accredited and approved by the Florida Board of Nursing.

Q. How long is the Nursing Assistant/Health Promotion/Home Health Aide Program?
A. The iTECH Nursing Assistant/ Health Promotion/Home Health Aide
Program is 240 hours.  This is called an Articulated program, which means that the graduate can phase-in to our Practical Nursing program later if desired. 

Q. If I already had the Nursing Assistant program, can I take just the Home Health Aide program?
A. Yes!  Recent graduates of the 165 hour Nursing Assistant program can
phase-in for just the Home Health Aide program (75 hours).

Q. What do the 240 hours include?
A. The 165 hours of the Nursing Assistant program include 143 hours of classroom and Skills Labs at iTECH, and 42 hours of clinical at nursing homes in Lehigh and Naples.  The Health Promotion part of this program includes classes on pesticide safety and Alzheimer’s disease, and is sponsored by Southwest Florida Works.  The 75 hours of the Home Health Aide part includes classes and clinical on how to care for a person in their home.

Q. What time are classes and clinicals for the Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide program?
A. Classes and clinical are Tuesday thru Thursday daytime from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM for 14 weeks.  This program is offered twice per year, Fall and Spring, and follows the Collier County Schools calendar.
