The Sunshine State Young Reader's Award Program culminated at our school on Friday, April 1, 2011 with our Sunshine Celebration. Students in grades 3-5 who read 15 of the titles from either the 3-5 list, 6-8 list, or a combination of both, celebrated with an ice cream party in the Media Center.
In March , students who had read 3 titles, were able to vote for their favorite. Voting was conducted by the elections office and used specially prepared electronic ballets. 235 students participated in the votingl, and the winner for our school voting was The Girl Who Could Fly by Victoria Forester. All the votes for each book were submitted online to determine the state winner. The state winner was recently announce, and the winner was....Obi, Gerbil on the Loose. Amazingly, this was the first time that the state winner was not the same as our school winner.
